Brief History of Beautiful Savior Lutheran School

The establishment of a Christian day school was a vision of the founding members of Beautiful Savior, a congregation that has served the Lord in Waukesha since 1953. Throughout the years, much time and effort has been spent by countless volunteers and staff in maintaining a strong Christian education program through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation instruction, and various Bible classes.

In 1986, a morning preschool program for three and four-year-olds was begun to serve the community and help parents bring up their children in the way of the Lord. In October of 1997, the voters of Beautiful Savior approved an expansion plan with the vision of expanding its class offerings through the eighth grade. In order to provide the needed classroom space, the congregation embarked on a building project that resulted in eight classrooms, a multi-purpose room, and expanded office space. The building was dedicated in August of 2000. In May of 2005, a gymnasium, as well as art and science labs, were dedicated.

The first eighth grade graduation was celebrated on June 8, 2007. Four of the six graduates were a part of the school’s first kindergarten class that began in the fall of 1998. Currently, our school offers three and four-year-old preschool classes, all-day kindergarten, and firs through eighth grade classes, and is enjoying significant growth of our student enrollment. Besides the core curriculum including religion, students also are instructed in advanced math, Spanish, and keyboarding. Students also enjoy special opportunities for participating in music, drama, yearbook club, and sports. Chapel services are held on a weekly basis.

Throughout its brief history, Beautiful Savior Lutheran School has been blessed by the Lord with many dedicated teachers and volunteers who offer an outstanding educational experience with the goal of modeling and molding a Christ-centered world view. Victor Jungkuntz, retired Director of Education, served as the school’s first administrator until January 1999. Pastor Peter Schmidt then served in that capacity through the spring of 2003. At that time, it was the Lord’s good pleasure to answer Beautiful Savior’s prayer for an administrator with Mr. Jon Mielke accepting the Call extended to him. When in 2006 Mr. Mielke accepted a Call to be the school executive for the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the Lord again richly blessed Beautiful Savior with our current principal, Mrs. Yvonne Gerth.

We are most thankful to the Lord for all who have served and are presently serving, whether in called positions or as volunteers, to enable our congregation to fulfill the vision of establishing and maintaining a Christian day school where Jesus Christ is worshiped as Savior and Lord and the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are taught as the inspired, inerrant Word of God. We pray that what was begun in His Name may continue to be a source of glory and honor to His Name until our Lord returns!
